To support this
year’s theme we have run with an ancient Egyptian display. The world
of ancient
Egypt provides an appropriate topic through which to promote the idea of
the excitement of
discovery. In an attempt to recapture this excitement we have
rebuilt Tutankhamen’s
tomb above ground! Hopefully students will find within our collections,
stories which will excite
their imaginations as they READiscover things about themselves and the
world in which they
live.
Parts of the display from left to right: the obelisk used as a
header for the CBC 2008 theme of READiscover; scattered rocks;
polystyrene blocks covered
over with material and used as an additional display area; book display
stand with pyramid
outline; wall mural of the Great Pyramid with book tally list; an
Egyptian princess; palm tree; and

Placement of palm tree branches. Base end of
each branch was inserted

then connected by fishing line to the ceiling.
To
enable the tying up process to be effective,
the weight of each branch
had to be taken up by
using a broom to prop up each branch until it
was successfully tied off.
