Vale Michelle Lorna Coetzee

It is with sadness that our College community acknowledges the passing of former Secondary Science Teacher, Mrs Michelle Coetzee. Michelle passed away on 28 March 2019. Michelle was a valued member of staff from January 2009 until September 2017 when she took leave due to her battle with illness.

Michelle was a fun-loving teacher who radiated joy and compassion. She loved sunflowers and, in many ways, she was like one herself. Enjoying a close relationship with the Lord, she absorbed God’s love and passed it on to others. Indeed, she was the sunshine in the Science Department, encouraging everyone and showing unconditional love and care towards students and staff alike.

During her early days at Lake Joondalup Baptist College, Michelle juggled a heavy teaching load with being a mother of her small children and a teenager. She gave her best in all that she did, with teaching Year 11 Human Biology her greatest passion. She was always generous with a smile, her time and her resources, sharing her ideas, skills and knowledge. Her students appreciated her sense of humour, unique pronunciations of biological terms and her genuine care for their wellbeing. Michelle was a much-loved teacher whose hard work and innovative ways of explaining difficult concepts will be missed. She could bring laughter and humour into both the best and the toughest of times. Everywhere Michelle went she used her amazing creative talents to make her environment a beautiful place. She was so well organised and her working spaces were orderly, attractive and displayed her sense of fun.

Michelle has left lasting memories with all of us, from her handcrafted gifts to her warm smile and mischievous blue eyes. Indeed, Michelle’s beautiful, positive spirit lives on in the hearts of all of us who knew her. It was our privilege to work alongside her.

Her amazing resilience and trust in God were admired as she fought the fight of her life with dignity and humour right to the end. Now she has found her permanent rest in the arms of our heavenly Father.

Michelle leaves behind her husband Paul and her children Clarise, Tjaart and Brenda, and our thoughts and prayers are with them at this terribly sad time.

Michelle, we know you are in a better place and the good news is that in God’s time we look forward to seeing you again.
